About

Matter in motion

L’Os de Bois is a Quebec-based arts company and nonprofit organization (NPO) specializing in the creation, production, and presentation of narrative and visual works centered on the puppetry arts. At the heart of the company lies a vibrant artistic collaboration: the meeting of Noémi Bélanger, a visionary textile sculptor, and Salim Hammad, a master of physical theater and clowning. Together, the duo breathes new poetic life into contemporary puppet theater.

Our Story

Noémi Bélanger founded L’os de bois in 2018 in Laval, driven by the desire to create works where the visual aesthetic plays an active role in the storytelling. A graduate of UQAM in contemporary puppetry, she has established herself as a leading specialist in needle felting. Her narrative sculptures—some reaching life-size proportions—create striking visual worlds.

In 2024, the company reached a major milestone when Salim Hammad officially joined as co-artistic director. An Algerian-born puppeteer and actor based in Quebec since 1992, Salim infuses the company’s projects with his immense background in mime, storytelling, and improvisation. Recipient of the prestigious Charles-Biddle Award, he possesses a deep sensitivity for young audiences and people with special needs, bringing a profoundly human and dynamic dimension to the company’s creations.
